Subscribers who select the Tailored Program can select the type of meal support they’re interested in, such as Keto, GLP-1 Support, Heart Healthy, Diabetic, Signature (which focuses on general weight loss and metabolic reset), Menopause, Postpartum, Gluten Free, or Vegan. The service offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner or just lunches and dinners for either 5 or 7 days, and you’ll also get access to personalized support with registered dietitians (RDs).
There’s also the Flexible Meal Delivery, which lets subscribers select 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, or 20 meals which can be mixed and matched across any of the Tailored Programs. This is particularly suitable for families with different dietary needs and preferences. You’ll also be able to add snacks to your delivery.
“The variety was nice, and a good mix,” said tester Ian Campbell. “Not having to think too hard about it is the key to a service like this.” However, Campbell found that the meals were sometimes not filling enough. He also found the side dishes to be a bit mushy at times.

Best for Families
Hungryroot
Pros
- Offers groceries and meal kits
- Meals are easy to customize to your dietary needs
- Meals are easy to make, with little prep required
Cons
- Groceries are more expensive than in stores
- Meals lack flavor-enhancing ingredients like herbs and spices
Key Specs
- Meal types: Meal kit, family meals for two or four people
- Carb content in keto meals: No clearly labeled keto meals; carb content varies
- Price per serving: Roughly $11.66 per serving
- Meals per week: Flexible
- Plans available: Carb Conscious, Calorie Conscious, High Protein, Low Cholesterol, Low Sodium, Low FODMAP, Low Fat, Low Sugar, High Fiber
Hungryroot is a hybrid service that combines healthy grocery delivery with meal kit delivery, making it a flexible option that’s ideal for families. In addition to simple meal kits for quick weeknight dinners, the service also provides breakfast, packable lunch items, after-school snacks, desserts, and grocery staples like milk and eggs. Depending on your household size, you’ll receive a certain number of credits each week that can be spent on any combination of meal kits and groceries you prefer.
Hungryroot’s meals come together quickly with just a few ingredients, which makes it easy to tailor a family meal to be keto with just a few quick tweaks. That way, everyone in the family can have the same meal, even if there’s only one person following a keto diet. For example, the Smoked Roasted Salmon and Sautéed Baby Broccoli meal is keto-friendly by simply avoiding the included potato side. Likewise, the Easy-Cleanup Cheesy Spinach Artichoke Chicken is keto as is, and a simple side of rice can make it well-rounded for your family members who aren’t following keto.
“All my meals were easy to make, with little prep,” said Ashley Brafman, RD, who tested this meal delivery service for us. However, she noted that the flavors were a little bland and the meals felt incomplete since they lacked flavor-enhancing items like herbs, spices, garlic, and onions — but those are all things you could easily add yourself. “Overall it was a good experience and I liked the variety it gave,” she said. Just keep in mind that purchasing groceries through Hungryroot can be more expensive than purchasing the same items at the store.

Best Chef-Designed
CookUnity
Pros
- Chef-designed and prepared meals
- Highly rated for flavor and variety
- Meals available for several different dietary needs and preferences
Cons
- Keto options may be limited in your area
- Some “keto” options may contain too many carbs
Key Specs
- Meal types: Fresh, single-serving
- Carb content in keto meals: 20 grams of total carbs or less per serving
- Price per serving: $11.09–$12.29
- Meals per week: 6, 8, 12, or 16
- Plans available: Keto, GLP-1 Balanced, Vegetarian, Vegan, Less than 600 Calories, Low Carbs, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Low Sodium, Paleo
If you enjoy exciting flavors and fine dining, keto may be a big adjustment for you. However, CookUnity can help you cut carbs with meals designed and prepared by professional chefs, then delivered fresh to your home. The keto options all contain 20 g of total carbs or less and include meals like Chef Nora Nolasco’s Pork and Shrimp Wonton Soup and Chef Ruben Garcia’s Keto Chicken Carnitas Bowl.
Sauer said, “I really liked the variety of meals and flavors.” However, she also noted that many of her meals approached 1,000 calories (or more) per serving — which wouldn’t be ideal for someone trying to lose weight, unless they split the meal into multiple servings. One great thing about CookUnity is the number of filters offered for meal preferences, allergens, and dietary needs — making it easier to find meals that suit your needs and tastes exactly.
The number of keto meals available will vary drastically based on where you live. For example, my ZIP code in Arkansas had only two keto options available when I checked, but a ZIP code in Los Angeles had 11 keto-friendly options on the same day. Additionally, some “keto” CookUnity meals may contain as many as 20 g of total carbs per serving, which may be excessive for keto — especially if the meal is low in fiber. So, we recommend keeping an eye on that nutritional label when selecting your meals.

Best Flavor
Sunbasket
Pros
- Unique flavors and ingredients compared to other meal kits
- Offers meal kits, prepared meals, and add-on items
- USDA-certified organic
Cons
- Portion sizes may be on the small side
- Meals can taste bland
Key Specs
- Meal types: Meal kits, family meals for two to four people; fresh, single-serving meals
- Carb content in keto meals: 15 g of net carbs or less per serving
- Price per serving: $11.49–$24.49
- Meals per week: Two, three, four, or five
- Plans available: Keto-Friendly, Carb Conscious, Gluten Free, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Mediterranean, Diabetes Friendly, Paleo,
For carb-conscious eaters who enjoy cooking, Sunbasket provides interesting, internationally inspired meal kits for two to four people. If you prefer not to cook, there are also several single-serving keto-friendly premade meals available. Some of the keto-friendly meal kits on a recent menu included Ginger Steak Stir-Fry With Steamed Cabbage, Zucchini, and Carrot and Chicken Parmesan With House-Made Marinara and Broccoli. Keto-friendly premade meals include Grilled Chicken With Pesto Rosso and Creamy Cauliflower “Risotto” and Salmon With Dijon Cream Sauce, Artichokes, and Mushrooms.
Tori Martinet, MS, RD, who tested Sunbasket, said, “Overall, these meals felt pretty healthy. I felt good about being able to order vegetables and whole grains, salmon, and lean proteins. The ingredients are so good, [and] I feel like you’d pay a comparable price at the store and still have a lot more work ahead of you, since Sunbasket ingredients are so pre-prepped.” She did note that many of the meals are high in sodium and that the portions are on the smaller side.

Best Organic
Trifecta
Pros
- Made with organic ingredients
- Prepared meals are ready in just a few minutes
- 100 percent money-back guarantee on your first order (up to seven meals)
Cons
- Meals aren’t visually appealing
- Vegetables are mushy

- Carb content in keto meals: 10 grams of net carbs or less per serving
- Price per serving: $14.80–$15.85
- Meals per week: 7, 10, 14, 15, or 21
- Plans available: Keto, Clean, Paleo and Whole30 Friendly, Plant Based, GLP-1 Friendly
Trifecta’s keto meal plan (along with its other plans, including paleo and plant-based) offers breakfasts and dinners. Some sample dinner meals include Cheesy Shrimp Alfredo With Keto Lupin Pasta and Romesco Chicken With Asparagus and Carrots, while breakfasts include the Pesto Breakfast Scramble With Chicken Apple Sausage and the Bacon and Peppers Omelet Bowl With Mozzarella Cheese.
Tester Brittany Scanniello, RD, said the meals don’t always look very appetizing, and some of the vegetables were mushy after being prepared, frozen, vacuum-sealed, and then reheated. But, she said, “The meals I tried tasted better than they looked,” so don’t be too put off by appearances. She noted that they also smelled good, and the vegetables had more texture and crunch in some of the meals. As far as nutritional value, she was impressed with the overall meal composition, portion sizes, macronutrient breakdown, high protein content, and low sodium content

Best for Affordability
Dinnerly
Pros
- Less than $12 per serving
- More than 100 recipes to choose from weekly
- Prepared meals as well as quick recipes available
- Flexible meal selections and delivery options
Cons
- Swapping proteins or ingredients not an option
- A lot of plastic packaging
Key Specs
- Meal types: Prepared meals and meal kits
- Carb content in keto meals: 17 g of net carbs or less per serving
- Price per serving: $5 - $12
- Meals per week: 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6
- Plans available: Low Carb, Low Calorie, I Like Everything, Gluten-Free Friendly, Picky Eater Approved, Quick & Easy, or Vegetarian
If you’re on a budget, Dinnerly is a great option, since you’ll be paying $12 or less per serving (and sometimes as little as $5). Choose from Low Carb, Low Calorie, I Like Everything, Gluten-Free Friendly, Picky Eater Approved, Quick & Easy, or Vegetarian, or pick and choose among the plans each week. We especially like the Picky Eater Approved menu for families, as well as the Low Carb option for those on a keto diet.
Editor Ashley Ziegler tried this meal kit. “I like how many meal options are available each week, and how each meal has tags for certain needs ("kid-friendly" and "under 30 min" are big winners for me),” she said. “I also like that the website advertises recipes as "five simple steps" because I am not a cook, and I get overwhelmed by big recipes.”
When ordering, you’ll select the number of people you’ll be feeding as well as how many meals per week you’d like to cover (2, 3, 4, 5, or 6). The more meals your order, the more affordable each meal is. Ziegler noted that ingredient swapping or protein selection isn’t available for each specific meal, and she also mentioned that there is a lot of plastic packaging in the box.

Best Low-Carb
Snap Kitchen
Pros
- Several low-carb meals
- Meals are flavorful
- Made with simple ingredients
Cons
- Meals don’t look as appetizing as the photos
- Portion sizes are small
Key Specs
- Meal types: Fresh, single-serving
- Carb content in keto meals: 30 grams of total carbs or less in low-carb meals (not keto)
- Price per serving: $11.88–$14.67
- Meals per week: 6 or 12
- Plans available: N/A
Snap Kitchen has a menu that changes seasonally and features about 30 meals to choose from, including 12 low-carb meals on the current menu. You can order 6 or 12 meals per week. If you live near a Snap Kitchen location in Texas, you have access to a much larger menu, along with in-store pickup and local same-day delivery.
I was the tester who tried Snap Kitchen, and I thought the meals tasted really great — although they didn’t look as good as the photos on the website. I loved the low-carb Blackened Shrimp With Quinoa Grits and the Grilled BBQ Chicken Tenders With Mac and Cheese. The portion sizes were small, which kept calories low (all the meals were 600 calories or less), but it definitely makes this service a better fit for people who want to lose weight.

Best for Smoothies
Revive Superfoods
Pros
- Packed with superfoods and fiber
- Keto-friendly smoothies available
- Arrive frozen and ready-to-blend
Cons
- Some smoothies are very sweet while others are bland
- Not organic
Key Specs
- Meal types: Ready-to-blend smoothies
- Carb content in keto meals: 18 - 20 g
- Price per serving: $6.99 - $8.99 per smoothie
- Meals per week: 7, 14, or 21 smoothies
- Plans available: No specific plans but Keto-Friendly, High Protein, GLP-1-Friendly, Wellness, Low-Calorie, and Energizing options available
Smoothies may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you start your keto diet, but Revive Superfoods carries keto-friendly smoothies, as well as high-protein smoothies, low-calorie smoothies, and other great smoothie options for you to choose from when you build your box for delivery. You can decide between a 7-, 14-, and 21-smoothie box that you can fill with delicious options like Blueberry & Maqui Berry and Choco Banana & Strawberry.
The ingredients come frozen and ready to blend whenever you’re craving a yummy and nutrient-dense smoothie — all you have to do is add a liquid of choice (there are suggestions on the website for which liquid goes best with each smoothie). “I really enjoyed the high protein mango - although slightly too sweet from artificial sweetener, it was creamy and tasty,” said tester Caitlin Beale, RD. “I also liked the Dragon Fruit Strawberry smoothie. It was less sweet and tasted like fresh fruit, but I also added protein powder to make a full meal.”
Beale added that these had a great variety of flavor and that they blended smoothly in just 2 minutes. However, she noted that some smoothies were a bit too sweet, while others were a bit bland, and that the ingredients weren’t organic, which may be a dealbreaker for some.

Best Microwavable
Factor
Pros
- 10+ keto meals and 20+ keto add-ons each week
- Meals ready in two minutes or less
- Highly rated for flavor
Cons
- Most meals are high in fat and sodium
- May be too high in calories for weight loss
- Meal types: Fresh prepared, single-serving
- Carb content in keto meals: Less than 10 percent of calories
- Price per serving: $11.49–$13.99
- Meals per week: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, or 18
- Plans available: Keto, Vegetarian, Vegan, Protein Plus, Fiber Filled, Calorie Smart, Stay Balanced, Carb Conscious
Factor is a meal delivery service that provides fresh preprepared single-serving meals, along with a huge assortment of add-ons. “Factor was impressive for fully prepared meals,” said Kristy Del Coro, MS, RDN, LDN, who tested this service for us. She said that the texture and flavor of the meals she tried were excellent, even after reheating them in the microwave.
Factor boasts a large selection of keto options, with 10 to 15 keto-friendly meals (all featuring less than 10 percent calories from carbs) each week — like Spinach and Mushroom Chicken Thighs With Creamy Parmesan and White Wine Sauce or Louisiana Shrimp With Smoked Gouda Cauliflower “Grits” and Chicken Andouille Tomato Gravy. The menu also features about two dozen keto-friendly add-ons each week, including breakfast items, protein shakes, cookies, and more.
Factor meals tend to be high in fat and sodium, which may not be a problem on a high-fat, low-carb keto diet, unless your healthcare provider has instructed you to limit sodium. However, these meals are also higher in calories because of their high fat content, which could slow down weight loss, if that’s your goal. Still, Factor’s wide variety of tasty keto options makes it a great pick.

Best Meal Kit
Green Chef
Pros
- Keto meal plan features 7 to 12 menu items each week
- Provides ingredients to cook family meals
- Produce is all organic when possible
Cons
- Some quality issues with produce
- Some keto meals may be too high in carbs
Key Specs
- Meal types: Meal kit, family meals for two, four, or six people
- Carb content in keto meals: 20 grams of net carbs or less per serving
- Price per serving: $11.99
- Meals per week: Two, three, or four
- Plans available: Keto, Mediterranean, Protein Packed, Calorie Smart, Plant Based, Quick and Easy, Gluten Free, Gut and Brain Health
If you prefer to cook at home but lack the time to plan meals and shop for groceries consistently, Green Chef is a good choice. It features a keto meal plan, and the service delivers all the ingredients you need to prepare healthy, chef-designed meals at home using its easy-to-follow recipe cards. “The recipes were definitely inspiring,” noted Martinet, who tested this service for us. “They featured varied dish compositions and ingredients that I wouldn’t necessarily cook with as much.”
The menu offers anywhere from 7 to 12 keto meal options each week, including delectable choices like Mediterranean Chicken With Artichokes, Roasted Peppers, Pepita Pesto, and Brussels Sprouts and BBQ Cheddar Meatloaves and Mashed Cauli With Roasted Broccoli and Scallion Greens. You can choose two, four, or six servings per meal, making these meals a good fit for individuals who like leftovers or families who enjoy cooking. Green Chef’s keto meals provide 20 g of net carbs or less per serving.
Comparison Table
Other Noteworthy Keto Meal Delivery Services We Tried
We tested a total of 43 meal delivery services that offer low-carb and keto-friendly options and ultimately narrowed our final list down to 10 picks. Here are the other companies we tested:
HelloFresh offers tasty, family-friendly meal kits — including several low-carb options each week. They’re available in the 48 contiguous states (not Alaska or Hawaii), and meals range in price from $9.99 to $11.49 per serving. We love the large, rotating weekly menu and crowd-pleasing recipes. However, the service didn’t make the cut this time because none of its meals are keto-friendly without substituting ingredients. For more about HelloFresh, visit HelloFresh.com.
Finally, we tried Territory Foods, which offers gluten-free and dairy-free meals for paleo, vegan, vegetarian, low-carb, and keto eaters. Territory Foods is available in the 48 contiguous states, and its prices range from $13.99 to $16.99 per serving. We like Territory Foods’ interesting meal combinations and add-on bone broths and family entrées, but we ultimately excluded the company from our rankings because its menu is identical to Provenance’s. To learn more about Territory Foods, check out TerritoryFoods.com.
How We Tested the Best Keto Meal Delivery Services
Our team of registered dietitians and journalists has tried over 50 different meal delivery services, including more than 40 options that offer keto or low-carb meals. Our testers tried each service for at least a week, evaluating every step in the process from ordering, choosing meals, receiving their box, preparing the meals, tasting the meals, and editing or canceling service. Additionally, our team of dietitians provided expert insight on the overall health and nutritional quality of each service for generally healthy people, people who want to lose weight, and people with certain chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, and more.
Based on the results of our testing, we chose the best keto meal delivery services based on the variety of keto-friendly meals offered, the taste and quality of the meals, and the overall customer experience each service provided. Our team of dietitians and journalists who tested these services include SaVanna Shoemaker, MS, RDN, LD (myself), Ian Campbell, Kristy Del Coro, MS, RDN, LDN, Tori Martinet, MS, RD, Caitlin Beale, RD, Ashley Ziegler, Brittany Scanniello, RD, Raki Swanson, Emily Hirsch, MS, RD, LDN, Mary Sauer, and Ashley Brafman, RD.
Additionally, I consulted with Alexandria Hardy, RDN, LDN, owner of Pennsylvania Nutrition Services, to gain more background information about the benefits of keto, how it works, and who it’s the best fit for.
As a registered dietitian who has first-hand experience with the keto diet (and who has also tried many of these keto-friendly meal delivery services in the past), I feel uniquely qualified to write this article.
What to Look for When Signing Up for a Keto Meal Delivery Service
Here are the most important things to look for when choosing a keto meal delivery service.
- Carb content: When looking for a keto-friendly meal delivery service, the most important thing to look for is a service that provides meals that are low in carbs. Fortunately, several meal delivery services offer keto meals. The best choices are those with fewer than 10 to 15 g of net carbs per serving.
- Ingredient quality: Once you’ve narrowed down your list of keto meal delivery services, you may also have other dietary needs or ingredient preferences to account for. For instance, you may prefer meals made with organic ingredients, or you may want a service that’s also gluten-free.
- Price: Price is another major factor. While most meal delivery services are more expensive than shopping at a grocery store, they offer a degree of convenience that may be worth paying more for. Still, you need to ensure that the service you ultimately choose is one that can fit comfortably in your food budget.
- Variety: Finally, if you plan to use a meal delivery service for more than a few weeks, you’ll want to look for one with a large selection of meals or a menu that changes weekly. That way, you won’t get tired of having the same meals over and over.
What Is the Keto Diet?
Hardy explains that the diet was originally developed as a treatment for children with epilepsy, but is now commonly used by adults for weight loss and metabolic health.
What Foods Are Best to Eat on the Keto Diet?
That said, there's still a large variety of foods that people on the keto diet can eat. This includes:
- Fats and oils: Butter, avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, tallow, lard
- Meats: Beef, chicken, pork, fish, shellfish, turkey, duck, wild game, eggs
- Nuts and seeds: Peanuts, almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, sesame seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds
- Nonstarchy vegetables: Broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, mushrooms, lettuce, greens, tomato, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, cabbage, kale, radish, bok choy, garlic
- Dairy: Cheese, heavy cream, half-and-half, sour cream
- Other: Zero-calorie sweeteners, vinegar, broth
